Behold the shed!
This is the first post of my new blog "Metamorphosis" as the new title fits my ever changing life.
This season has been a busy one and has been consumed by the construction of my new shed. When the RV lot behind us came up for sale a couple of years ago we jumped at the chance to buy it, mainly to control who was living right behind us. It also gave me an opportunity to create a space for working on all my craft projects. And Left Brain was excited to see all that stuff leave the house, along with the mess I made while working on my crafts.
The face on the side was purchased from a garden center in Minnesota. It came from Haiti and was made from an old oil drum.
Still looking for the perfect thing to put over the window in front. I have my eye on a lovely large "tree of life" from Amazon. But that will have to be next season. |
The face on the side was purchased from a garden center in Minnesota. It came from Haiti and was made from an old oil drum.
Once those two things were in place, it was time for the fun stuff!
I had the shed painted to match our house with a gray paint called "chance of rain". A little Arizona humor. The white trim is called "bakery box" 'cause who isn't excited to see a bakery box show up! I know they sure do here in Carriage Manor on Tuesday Talks with free coffee and donuts.
The doors are painted "spirited yellow" and make me smile every time I see them. Now some people think I made a mistake having the single door in the front and the French doors in the back, but they'd be wrong.
I love how the patio came out. The red table is near an outlet for the crock pot, just waiting to serve to guests and friends. |
I wanted the French doors in the back for easy loading of the outdoor furniture in the off season and it made the area feel more like a courtyard. I know, pretty lofty ideas of a 10 x 12 courtyard. I like to say that we "Living Large by Living Small" in our tiny abodes.
Building the shed was the first step and then we had the pavers redone to level out the massive five foot back yard and combining it with the lots easement to make a 10' x 12' patio.
Since the pavers were a mix and match deal to save money I bought an outdoor rug to bring in some color. I then worked off that color palette to add the red table cover on the table by the back door and the turquoise umbrella to pick up the blues.
I already had two of the chairs, so ordered another set and the table to round out a nice area to eat and relax with friends.
The lizard creeping up the left side of the doorway was orange in a former life but the sun had baked the life right out of him. I had some yellow spray paint on hand so now he's yellow. He might be orange next time, or red or maybe lime green. Who knows? My mind is a fickle thing and prone to change.
It's been so much fun to design and plan where to put things and what colors to pull in, but I'm sure glad it's done. Now I can work on the inside.
